Tips to Spring Clean Your Car

Spring Clean Your Car | Ken Nelson Nissan | Dixon, IL

Declutter

The first step is the easiest: you need to remove the junk and clutter from your Nissan. Not only will this immediately make your car look better, it will also reveal other messes that need your attention. Besides, who needs the winter gloves and scarves littered all over the backseat when you really need access to your umbrella instead?

Clean Your Upholstery

Clearing out your car should give you a good idea of what parts of your upholstery and floors need to be scrubbed or vacuumed. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe down all surfaces, even the ceiling.

Dust

Dust your dashboard, center console, and vents so you can easily breathe in the fresh spring air. Don’t forget to reach all the way up on the dashboard to where it meets the windshield.

Scrub Your Mats

Remove the layers of salt, grime, and slush by taking your mats out, shaking them down, and scrubbing them thoroughly. Don’t be afraid to take a power washer to your mats.

Wash It

Once the interior is fresh and clean, finish the job with a detailed car wash. Make sure to focus on wheel wells, hubcaps, and the underside of your Nissan, as they took the brunt of the impact during winter.

The Nissan Re-Leaf Concept Is Prepared for the Worst

This fall, Nissan debuted a new concept car that’s built to handle natural disasters. The Nissan Re-Leaf is modeled after the Nissan Leaf EV, and comes with durable, weatherproof sockets attached to the exterior. With these, the Nissan Re-Leaf serves as an emergency power source that’s capable of charging 110-volt to 230-volt devices straight from its battery.

This feature is already available in Japan on the Nissan Leaf, and has proven helpful during emergencies. According to Nissan, a fully charged Leaf can run a medical ventilator or a flood light for at least 24 hours. The Nissan Leaf is an incredible EV option for practical, conscientious drivers. Its life-saving potential makes it all the more appealing.

In addition to its bi-directional charging, the Nissan Re-Leaf concept has an open cargo area with no back seats and a pull out desk with a 32-inch LED screen. This would allow it to serve as a mobile office or information center after a disaster. It also has 8.8 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, an LED light bar, and fender flares, making it all the more capable.

Although there are no current plans to make the Re-Leaf for production, this concept car does serve to demonstrate the brand’s progressive direction. Bi-directional charging is proving to be of interest to many people who’d like to use vehicles for emergency power sources. The concept is called “vehicle-to-grid” or “V2G” technology, and will likely become increasingly available as more people upgrade to electric cars.

Nissan recently commissioned a new study, which indicated that 71 percent of Americans would rather travel in a car than sit in an airplane seat. Even those aged 65 and older are 85 percent were more likely to go on a trip with a car this summer.

Respondents said that those road trips were outdoor-focused, featuring activities like camping or boating — the type of adventures that require a Nissan vehicle with towing capacity.

“Towing can be intimidating for first-timers and even those with experience,” said Jared Haslam, vice-president, Product Planning, Nissan North America. But Nissan has several vehicles to choose from that provide a range of towing options when properly equipped.

The Nissan Armada can tow a maximum 8,500 pounds, while the TITAN XD can tow up to 11,000 pounds. These are great choices if you need to tow a camper. Even the 2020 Nissan Rogue and Murano have decent strength for towing, delivering 1,100-pound and 1,500-pound towing ratings, respectively. These models make it easy to transport jet skis or ATVs for a weekend getaway.

It’s not too late to enjoy the last days of summer warmth here in Dixon, IL. Whatever your adventure, Nissan vehicles make a great companion. Stop by Ken Nelson Nissan if you’re in need of a new ride to transport you on your next road trip.
